DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz commented on Romney’s losses Tuesday night, pointing out that the losses showed voters had serious reservations about Romney:
Tonight was a bad night for Mitt Romney, plain and simple. What should have been a night where he began to consolidate Republican support instead has shown that Republicans are reluctant to get behind him. Republicans are giving the field of candidates another look, demonstrating that the more people get to know Mitt Romney, the less they like him. They know he'll say anything to get elected, and they don't want a candidate they can't trust...

No candidate embodies that dissatisfaction more than Mitt Romney, who hasn't managed to lock this nomination up. The presumed front runner of the GOP field lost two of tonight’s contests so far – that math speaks for itself. He is losing support from independent voters nationally, and tonight we saw he's not gaining the favor of Republican primary voters either. They clearly don't appreciate being ignored as Mitt Romney did to Minnesota and they know his failed record as Governor of Massachusetts on the key issue of jobs, his background as a corporate raider, and his economic proposals would leave the middle class behind.
Wasserman-Schultz piles on Romney because she believes (as most of us do) that Romney will be the Tea Party Republican candidate for president...and she wants to remind everyone that even Republican voters don't like him...so why would ANYONE vote for him against President Obama.
- 51 votes
Let's just wait for him to get the nomination officially.
Then we can start the discussions. I personally don't understand why anyone would vote for Mit. He keeps lying about the economy, he represents everything that is wrong with the wealthy in America and just seems to be plain clueless. To say he was brought up on the streets? Really? To have bank accounts in the Caymans and in Switzerland to avoid taxes? Really?
Don't get me started about how he treated the family dog years ago.
Sure.... I will wait till the nomination is secure. Then .....

Not just the economy...he's been lying about EVERYTHING. I can't believe the number of documented, blatant lies this guy has been spewing for the last couple of months. You'd think his nose would be a mile long by now.

He just doesn't come off as sincere to me. He has that plastic grin stapled on his face all the time and his tone of voice makes him sound like a used car salesman. And that's besides all the obvious posturing on political issues.

"...why anyone would vote for Mitt..." Because he's the best of four very, very miserable choices. As much as I dislike Mitt Rmoney, the thought that some people prefer Santorum makes me almost physically ill. The thought that some people prefer Gingrich disgusts me. And the thought that some people prefer Paul makes me question whether they know anything about the man. IF one of these four men had to be POTUS, Rmoney would be the best of the four.

True, but what a choice...pick your poison!
- 14 votes
People, people, people. PLEASE show some compassion for those poor Republican voters out there. Choice A) They flock in ultra-conservative throngs to the polls to pick the one most likely to vote in their favors, only to choose the one least likely to win a popular vote. or Choice B) They drop in Mitt, a man who is almost a liberal in comparison, who STILL can't win a popular vote but who won't embarrass the party with quite as cataclysmic a loss.
Pity the poor fools, wouldja?

And good for him, since his religion isn't anyone's business and has no effect on his ability to govern - or not govern.
If only the radical religious right he's got to win over if he's to succeed wasn't concerned about his religion.... but of course, they are.
The GOP is so splintered - who the hell are they? They don't even know.

The recent economic info showing the economy doing better and with Romney's tax return, the right dont want this election to be about wealth and taxes. Remember you couldnt raise taxes in a recession, well if the economy improves, they cant continue to use that statement to prevent the expiration of the Bush tax cuts.
So the right are changing gears and want to put all their hope into social conservatives.

I am a firm believer in the separation of church and state and I do not like criticizing Romney because of his religion. However, I have to recognize the obvious. Romney's Mormon world does not include diversity or women's rights. He inherited wealth, is unemployed, makes tens of millions of dollars each year through investments, lives in a mansion, etc... How can he even relate to average Americans???
While I am not ready to jump on the band wagon and say Romney is involved in tax evasion, I do not understand why anyone would have accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands for any other purpose other than tax evasion. These banks are famous for helping people evade taxes. He says they are "investments" instead of simply bank account tax shelters. Google that! They are advertised all over the internet as TAX FREE investments and this is just the latest bank scam to help people evade taxes.

How long would it take Mitt Romney to earn what you make in a year?
I entered $40,000 and this is what it said...
In 2010, Mitt Romney made $40000 in 16 hours 10 minutes and 34 seconds.
It would take you 541 years 6 months 12 days 6 hours 20 minutes and 9 seconds to make what Mitt made in 2010.
- 29 votes
Mitt Romney thought that this vetting process is like Bain Capital where you brought companies, fired workers, reduce their wages, converted full to part time, shipped jobs to China, sold assets, etc. to make a quick profit for himself and his elite friends. This is a different game’s Mitt, hang it there, give us a core value that you can believe in, and stop flip flop, and lying about President Obama records, please tell us the true.

In 2010, Mitt Romney made $39000.00 in 15 hours 46 minutes and 18 seconds.

I make pretty good money, but that's just depressing. I work 4 jobs to make my income, and what, exactly, does Mitt do? Nothing. He basically lives off his investments which are only taxed at 15%. I pay a higher rate in taxes than he does. And this is what the Repubs will keep in place if people are stupid enough to continue to vote for them. If you're middle class it's likely that you'll pay more as a percentage of your income in taxes than Mitt does if we don't get rid of these people in Congress and if we don't re-elect Obama. So please, for once, vote for your own best interests!
- 9 votes
This "Romney income calculator" sure is a startling reminder how absolutely clueless Romney is about the average American's problems and issues.
If he showed any signs at all of being able to "walk in another's mocassins", then his wealth wouldn't be as much of an issue...but he has shown time and time again with his own words that he cannot, or will not, have empathy for poor or middle-class Americans.

I'm thinking of McGovern in 1976. What an embarrassment that was to a young Democrat at that time.
Actually, CMlawyer it was 1972. It may have been an embarrassment in 1972, but the Nixon voters were the ones that were embarrassed shortly thereafter!
- 11 votes
McGovern was a little to much of an idealist for the majority of Dems. Plus that he was from a northern state. Eventually, with alot of back room brokering a more 'acceptable' candidate was nonimated. I still voted Dem. But then I would have voted for Mickey Mouse, before voting for an R.
- 10 votes
Sorry! 1972 it was. I am not comparing any of the Repubs to McGovern in personality or politics, but I am thinking that there's going to be the same kind of lack of enthusiasm, support, and unhappiness amongst the Republican electorate in 2012 as there was in 1972 that kept the Dems from giving McGovern enough support to win more than 17 Electoral College votes and not even winning his home state. As slimy as Nixon was, he squashed McGovern. I think we'll see Pres. Obama likewise squash whoever the R's finally nominate, although there's no complacency: we have to fight for it. (And, Deepwater, I think you are referring to 1968 when the backroom brokering put Humphrey up against Nixon and Wallace.)
- 9 votes
No, my mistake was in thinking it was the brokering that made Jimmy Carter, who I voted for, the Dem. candidate. Sorry.
- 7 votes
I hope the Obama campaign is getting ready to crush any potential nominee. Mitt may very well lose this nomination. It's starting to look like the only chance the Republicans will have is a brokered convention. I don't think they have a viable candidate on the field yet.
- 15 votes
Don't dance on "slick willard's" grave just yet. He still has the inside track to the nomination. If he is successful, the GOP will "circle their wagons." Their hate of President Obama will override their dislike of Romney. They'll collectively hold their nose and pull the lever to get him elected. Reelection will not be easy for the President. This will be close and hard fought. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.
- 16 votes
Agreed...and we cannot let up our support of President Obama regardless of the polls and predictions and insanity of the Republican candidate. The Koch Brothers and right-wing super-pacs are going to be pouring millions (billions?) into this election in order to spread their lies about President Obama, so we need to fight back with truth and strong support.
- 21 votes
And don't forget the down ballot candidates. If the Republicans hold the house and gain the senate that may be even worse than losing the WH.

I keep telling everyone to check their voter registration and ID requirements now while they have time to do/get whatever they may have to. Also keep an eye out for changes between now and November. These sneaky righties may try to pass stuff at the last minute, or move your polling place. A couple years back our local elections were very weakly publicized at the minimal level required by law. Several potential candidates missed deadlines while unpopular candidates ran unopposed.
- 15 votes
It really amazes me what the Republicans have been able to get the general public to swallow even after Bush years.
This voter ID requirement is just one of many that I have a hard time understanding why people aren't more outraged than they seem to be and even support it knowing full well it does far more to disenfranchise persons legally able to vote then it does to stop illegal voting.
Well, I guess I just answered my own question as that is the purpose, to keep certain citizens from voting. Here in Oregon, I haven't gone to a voting poll in years. Most folks vote through the mail. I haven't seen anyone bring supposed fraud issues here and the system has worked fine for years.

#5:This will be close and hard fought. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.
This is why we plan to "vote early and vote often"!

I hope Santorum wins - he's the easiest of the rightwing nutjobs to defeat!
The GOP field is nothing short of a hot mess! That party should be shamed of the juvinile theater they are producing. They've completely botched elections in Iowa, Florida, Missouri, and Nevada...and mind you these are elections THEY control...and these are the same morons screaming about "voter ID" - make you wonder what "voter ID" is really about doesn't it?
Santorum will surely do well with the bible toting far right, but let's face it - if he's in the general election, women are going to run away from him as if he just crawled out of a septic tank! Frankly, I'm more than a little surprised at the remarkably low turnout in the Republican primaries this election cycle. I thought the GOP hate machine would be more motivating to the base.
I have figured that with Mitt the presumed nominee, there would be a dismal GOP turnout on November 6, because the teavangelicals are such a broad part of their base, and they strongly dislike the idea of voting for a "cultist." Could we be seeing this phenomenon already?
I surely hope so. The prospect of taking back several state legislatures to get rid of voter supression laws, anti-choice measures, and union busting efforts is a nice prospect to ponder. And think of the good to the country if Dems could win back the US House, and acheive the required super-majority in the Senate to acheive cloture when needed. I hope this isn't all just a pipe dream on my part. We could actually see real governance in America as opposed to anti-governance and obstruction

Here are some comments about Obama to even the fun out some. Take a look at the National Debt clock. http://www.usdebtclock.org/. Every US taxpayer now owes an extra $135,628 on top of their other taxes. This was early today, see what it is now. How can you claim the Republicans are the only war hawks and not look at Obama?
He is are now funding the rebels in Syria and will go to war against Iran against Russia's and China's National interest. We are going to save Australia from China. while expanding our presence in Asia's oceans. The real joke is Obama has won the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize while also continuing or starting wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, undeclared in Pakistan, undeclared in Yemen, and undeclared in Africa; all in four years. Santorium might beat Obama.
However, only one candidate for President would have cut back on military spending - Ron Paul, and he will not be elected so the country is basically destroyed over time.
Every candidate says they will get us out of wars until they have their first full briefing with the Director of National Intelligence and then suddenly the reality is that the way across the swamp is deeper and murkier than they realized.

Don't you long for the day when a nutty Michelle Bachmann would stand there on stage at a debate and proclaim, "I'm a serious candidate for President of the Unuted States?" What a laugh I got out of that. Oh how I long for the days of comedy at those debates. But now, its Ricky and Mitt.
And you saw last night when Ricky walked by his billionaire sugar daddy, Foster Freiss, and would not shake his hand, would not touch him in public, as Rachael Maddow put it. Made me wonder about Ricky for the first time. Is Ricky touching Foster Freiss in private? Umm.
