A Republican Congressman from Louisiana has become the laughingstock of the internet after posting a story from The Onion to his Facebook wall and then commenting on the sad, sad, evil state of the world. Congressmen: just like us! Or, rather, just like our elderly conservative great uncles who think that an "Abortionplex" is a real thing.
Congressman John Fleming might be comically out of touch and maybe a little stupid, but his friends on the social network aren't. After he posted a link to an article entitled "Planned Parenthood Opens $8 Billion Abortionplex" and remarking "More on Planned Parenthood, abortion by the wholesale," an exasperated follower remarked "The Onion is satire. How exactly did you get elected?" The embarrassed lawmaker quickly deleted the errant post, but not before those rascals over at Buzzfeed got a screenshot.
Even if Fleming didn't know The Onion is satire, he should have known that something was amiss when he actually read the article— if he actually read the article. Among the piece's claims: Planned Parenthood's new slogan is "No Life is Sacred," the megamall style facility had a lazy river ride for patients, and, most improbably and hilarious, that Planned Parenthood somehow in magical abortion fairyland found a money tree that grew them enough money to give them $8 billion (about 8 times their entire annual budget) to spend on one megabortionmall.
To borrow a very useful sentence from the side of my favorite coffee mug: Congressman John Fleming, you are dumb.
